A Reflection Time

Attended my first art lesson on 15 Nov 2008. It was not without trepidation that I made my way to the art studio. I imagined how I would freeze and not even able to draw anything decently recognizable and that how I would cringe when I hear criticism from my instructor and classmates. Oh my! Why did I subject myself to such torment?

Two hours later, I walked out of the studio feeling that I'm on the top of the world! I have managed to do a decent beginner piece albeit with lot of rooms for improvement. Accepting CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is actually easier than I thought as I know what and how to improve on my painting. I was so engrossed in my own work that there was no time to worry about how I should feel when my instructor critique my work.

At the end of the lesson, I told a peek at the four paintings and they were all different! There is no one right or correct picture! We all painted what we see from our own perspectives but that did not mean that mine is the best or that the others are better. I learn the need to be objective about and truthful to what I see and observe and at the same time, be open to others' views.
